Hamas political leader Khaled Mashaal, pictured, whose group achieved a resounding victory in Palestinian elections this week, said Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006 at a press conference in Damascus that his group still  wanted a partnership with other Palestinian factions and called for the world to respect the radical organization's landslide victory in parliamentary elections. Speaking to reporters from his base in Damascus, the Syrian capital, Khaled Mashaal outlined three goals: Reform of the Palestinian authority, sustaining its resistance to Israel and 'arranging the Palestinian home.' The Hamas chief also obliquely refused to disarm. At least 32 people were killed when the roof of an exhibition hall buckled under heavy snow. Hundreds of people were there attending a carrier pigeon fair.
