Mon, 26 Sep 2005 16:00:00 EST Red Smith: a Ruthian writer
Had he lived, Red Smith would have turned 100 yesterday. The New York Times, his last employer, ran one of his old columns, an elegant bit of prose written the day after Hank Aaron tied Babe Ruth's home run record. Still, Katrina forced a virtual shutdown of the nation's most important energy center, and most industry sources said damage was still being assessed.
