Now, a study appearing in this week's Journal of the American Medical Association suggests that it's not just Baby that benefits: Nursing seems to lower a mother's risk of diabetes. "This is another reason women should really think about giving it a shot," says lead researcher Alison Stuebe, an obstetrician and gynecologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

China called bird flu a "serious epidemic" and pledged to step up measures to fight the deadly virus yesterday as officials announced three new outbreaks of the disease in poultry in the country. The outbreaks were detected last week in western and southern China, resulting in the killing of nearly 175,000 birds, the official Xinhua News Agency said. The latest outbreak brings the total for China in recent weeks to 20.
