A jury today found Joseph Smith, 39, guilty of kidnap, first-degree murder and sexual battery in the killing of 11-year-old Carlie Brucia. The last time she was seen alive was on videotape from a car wash security camera, which showed her being led away by a man in a blue shirt. After the verdict, the girl's mom said Smith - who was on probation at the time of the killing -- should not have been allowed out of prison.
