Marine Corps Commandant Michael Hagee, in a breakfast meeting with defense writers yesterday, said the review will last from March until May and will seek to examine the lessons of Iraq to determine what the marines need to be able to do today and in the future. |

AP - Gunmen wearing Iraqi special forces uniforms have kidnapped a wealthy banker and his son after killing five of their bodyguards, police said Friday. Police found the bodies of three men who had been shot execution-style in northern Baghdad.

| A mudslide buried hundreds of houses and an elementary school in an eastern Philippine village today, killing an estimated 300 people and leaving another 1,500 missing, a Red Cross official said. "It sounded like the mountain exploded, and the whole thing crumbled," survivor Dario Libatan told Manila radio DZMM, according to The Associated Press. The region has been drenched in recent days by heavy rains and flash flooding. |

| President Bush today said he is "satisfied" with the explanation Vice President Dick Cheney gave of the weekend hunting accident in which a 78-year-old lawyer was shot. Bush, in his first public comments about the shooting, added that Cheney was "profoundly affected" by the experience. Cheney will not face any charges after authorities in Texas ruled the shooting a "mere hunting accident." |
