U.S. troops were on the hunt in a volatile region south of Baghdad for three U.S.-led military personnel, who went missing after an insurgent attack today that killed five others in an eight-person force. The U.S. military said attackers struck the U.S.-led forces -- seven U.S. soldiers and an Iraqi Army interpreter -- 12 miles west of Mahmoudiya.
At least 18 people were killed today during clashes between pro-government supporters and opposition party members in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi, police and intelligence sources said. Many of those killed were supporters of deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, who had gathered to rally as he arrived in the city earlier in the day, police said.
