Americans overwhelmingly lack confidence that Iraq will have a stable government in place within the next year, but those who believe the war is worth its cost is rising, according to a CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll released Wednesday. The 12 coal miners who died after an explosion trapped them in a carbon monoxide-filled mine had access to an oxygen tank that carried more than the hour's worth of breathable air that their portable units held, sources involved in the investigation said. The extra tank was in the mine to fuel welding torches, but the sources said they were not sure how much oxygen it contained at the time of the explosion.
