Sen. Harry Reid is expected to propose an immigration reform bill tomorrow morning by submitting legislation passed last year by the Senate Judiciary Committee, U.S. News has learned.
Criticizing the moral and environmental implications of nuclear weaponry, 15 students at UC-Santa Barbara have proposed a hunger strike and a weeklong tent city-style campout to protest the university's ties with nuclear research facilities including Los Alamos National Laboratory, the Daily Nexus reports. In a possible boon for the pudding industry, the students have threatened a solid food hunger strike and have suggested that hundreds or thousands of supporters would join the protest.
A high-speed police chase resulted in a collision between a pickup truck and a University of Kansas sorority house, the Daily Kansan reports. According to the police, officers originally had responded to a report of a man smashing the windows of two vehicles with a hammer and threatening a man with a knife around 2:20 a.m. The resulting car chase at speeds of up to 80 mph led the Dodge Dakota pickup to the Chi Omega house, where the 23-year-old driver narrowly missed students relaxing in the sorority's fountain. The pickup driver was flown by helicopter to a hospital for treatment. None of the students at the sorority house were injured.

AP - A wildfire roared across brush-covered hills in the city's sprawling Griffith Park on Tuesday, triggering evacuations of homes and some of the city's most famous landmarks.
The flames of an urban brush fire lit up the California nighttime sky as it roared through portions of Los Angeles' landmark Griffith Park. The spreading flames prompted mandatory evacuations in the Los Feliz neighborhood on the south side of the park, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The park, about 10 miles north of downtown Los Angeles, includes the copper-domed Griffith Park Observatory.
A hospital that performed a controversial procedure to stunt the growth and sexual development of a severely disabled child violated Washington state law by sterilizing her, a report released Tuesday says. Ashley, 9, nicknamed "pillow angel" by her family, has an unchanging brain injury which means she will never talk or walk, and is totally dependent on her parents. Seattle Children's Hospital said it would take steps to ensure it does not repeat the procedure on others without getting a court order.
Five alleged Islamic radicals were Tuesday charged with plotting to kill U.S. soldiers in an armed assault against Fort Dix in New Jersey. Two paid informants infiltrated the group and recorded meetings, an affidavit says. One quote in the alleged recordings is a defendant saying, "My intent is to hit a heavy concentration of soldiers." A sixth person is charged with helping the alleged cell.
