| Tue, 7 Mar 2006 16:00:00 EST Best Health Plans correction |
| We recently learned that the health plan rankings published last October contained many errors, none the fault of U.S. News. The errors have been corrected.
The rankings were compiled by our collaborator, the National Committee for Quality Assurance. NCQA is a nonprofit group that collects and analyzes performance data from health plans and is the major accrediting body for managed-care plans. NCQA ranked the plans using a complex model that gave more weight to certain items and less to others.
The errors came about because not one but two different sets of weightings were inadvertently applied. NCQA took full responsibility for the errors, strengthened its internal controls, and apologized. U.S. News apologizes as well. |

Passed in the weeks after the September 11 attacks, it is intended to help investigate and capture possible terrorists -- but includes powers such as allowing medical records to be accessed without a court order. |
