AP - President Barack Obama has written to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev suggesting U.S. plans for a missile defense system in Eastern Europe might be unnecessary if Moscow helped in blocking Iran's progress toward building long-range missiles, senior administration officials said on Tuesday.
Police in Lahore have launched an intensive search for at least 12 gunmen believed to be involved in an attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team, which left six security personnel dead and eight players hurt -- including two with gunshot wounds. Video footage showed several gunmen with automatic weapons opening fire on the convoy close to the stadium.
The search for three missing boaters, including two NFL players, continues this morning off Florida's Gulf Coast. A fourth boater, former University of South Florida football player Nick Schuyler, was found sitting on top of their small overturned fishing boat Monday afternoon. Based on what Schuyler told the Coast Guard, they were able to narrow the search from 16,000 square miles to 2,000 square miles.
Over the weekend, Republican Party boss Michael Steele called Rush Limbaugh's rhetoric "ugly" and insisted that he, not Limbaugh, heads the GOP. But on Monday, Steele backed off those remarks. "To the extent that my remarks helped the Democrats in Washington to take the focus, even for one minute, off of their irresponsible expansion of government, I truly apologize," he said.
