| Despite what headlines may suggest, not all manufacturing work is being shipped overseas to China or other low-cost countries. In fact, many companies say they can't find enough workers–here in the United States–for a variety of openings that require special skills. One recent study found that 80 percent of U.S. manufacturers anticipate a shortage of skilled workers over the next three years. Some are white-collar jobs requiring a college degree, while others entail as little as one year of post-high-school training. Here are 10 manufacturing jobs that offer good pay–and even job security: |

| Would you trust somebody who advised your high-school-age son or daughter to train for a career in manufacturing? Doubtful. After all, blue-collar jobs evoke images of hot, clanging, dangerous factory floors. And to get a job, wouldn't you have to move to Guadalajara or Shanghai? After all, for decades, manufacturing has been moving from the United States to low-cost countries. And the trend seems to be accelerating. Ford and General Motors recently announced major layoffs, and as if to rub it in, GM almost simultaneously announced a nearly 30 percent increase in hiring in India. |

| India will be allowed to buy more sophisticated fighter aircraft and other high-tech arms from the United States as part of a closer defense relationship between the two nations, the U.S. says. The deal will be viewed with interest by India's regional rival Pakistan, which is seen by the U.S. as a key ally in the war on terror. Pakistan and India, which both possess nuclear weapons, have a frosty relationship -- with tensions regularly rising especially over the disputed Kashmir region. |

| A nurse who admitted killing as many as 40 patients today received 11 consecutive life sentences -- and heard the anger and grief of relatives of his victims. Deborah Yetter-Medina, whose grandmother was killed, demanded Cullen -- who had tried to avoid being at the hearing -- look at her before telling him: "You are Satan's son. There ain't no doors out of hell, babe." Cullen pleaded guilty to committing 22 murders in New Jersey and seven in Pennsylvania. |
